The AIF/Hedge Fund ecosystem in India

Here’s an interesting overview of the various Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs) in India.

These funds have minimum investment requirements and are only reserved for sophisticated and wealthy investors.

To set the context here’s the definition and categories of AIFs.

Alternative Investment Funds or AIF means any fund established in India which is privately pooled
investment vehicle which collects funds from sophisticated investors with a defined investment policy
for the benefit of its investors. AIFs provide flexibility & more opportunity for the Fund - Managers to
invest in instruments, where the regular Mutual funds and PMS cannot invest. There are more than
500 AIFs registered under SEBI as on date.
