Hi,

I’m 22 years old and started investing recently after I started my first job this year. I have a question regarding DP AMC and BSDA eligibility.

When I turned 18, my father helped me open a demat account with another broker. I never really used it, and it’s practically dormant (it only has holdings worth around ₹1,000–2,000).

In the first week of March this year, I opened a Zerodha account, which is now my primary account. I noticed that no AMC/DP maintenance charges have been deducted yet for the first quarter, so I’m wondering why.

My questions are:

1. Is the AMC not charged because Zerodha waives it for the first year, or is there some other reason?

2. Since I already have another demat account, am I not eligible for a BSDA account with Zerodha?

3. Would it make sense to either -

I’m early in my career and trying to keep my investing costs low, so I’d appreciate any guidance on what the most sensible approach would be.

Thanks!

Since yu opened your Zerodha account in March, the no AMC for the first year offer doesn’t apply to your account. It’s eligible if your account was opened on or after June 1st. We’ve mentioned it [here](https://support.zerodha.com/category/account-opening/resident-individual/ri-charges/articles/what-is-the-annual-maintenance-charge).

BSDA eligibility is based on all your demat accounts. If yu hold another demat account in your name, you won’t be eligible for BSDA unless it is closed and you meet the other eligibility criteria.

Either approach works. Once your old demat account is closed and you meet the BSDA eligibility criteria. Your Zerodha demat account will be considered as a BSDA account. 🙂
