Funniest moment in hindsight for me was, really really long time back, I assumed that I was holding a short call position and when market moved against me (asian markets were all up 4% in the morning), I thought I had lost it all and decided to drown my sorrow with some alcohol all alone  I cried, had a roller coaster of emotional trauma, and when I got back home late in the night, decided to check if there was anything left at all in my trading account.

And guess what, there was never an open position in the first place, a stoploss that I had placed in the system was triggered just before market closing the previous day, and for the next 30 mins I danced non stop without any music…

Yeah, I can laugh about it today…

Someday in 2012, at the market opening, the institutional trading had by mistake placed Limit Buy orders instead of Sell orders in all the option contracts(Call & Put) of NIFTY. So, the orders went to the exchange at the price levels of Sell orders. Basically, all the option contracts quoted at Higher Ckt Limits for the first minute or so. One of my friend, who had placed after market orders in icicidirect made a killing on that.

I had just opened a new account with one of the brokers and was waiting for password which had been dispatched in courier. I received a call from someone from the brokers office asking “Sir you have not been trading for a long time. Any reason?” I answered “Yes, I am waiting for my password”.

I dont know if I can call this a funny moment at that time. But thinking about it now, it sure is funny.

I was new to the markets and didn’t know a thing. I was in college and this was the recovery from the 2008 lows. So, there was this stock PSTL (Pyramid Saimara Ltd). It had been on a circuit, and now it was going sideways. Being the fool I was back then. I thought that since the stock fallen in value so much, the stock is bound to come back up and give me a huge return.

One day PSTL opened circuit up and I got into the stock at 50-55 Rs. range. And the stock just fell completely after that. It was on a lower circuit everyday. Some days there were minor opportunities to sell. But I didn’t. I read everything I could on the company. And the plain truth was the company had huge debt it could not service. But I don’t being worried about that. But I read about the chairman of the company and started to reason that he seems like a nice man and “I’m sure he wouldn’t manipulate his stock”.

I held on to the stock just because the boss seemed like a nice man. The things we come up with justify our actions and hope.

By the time I finally sold the stock was at 22. And the stock fell more over the months and stopped trading at 4-6, when it was delisted due to manipulation and some other stuff.

25% of my portfolio blew up in weeks. But in the end I was just happy to get my money back and start afresh. I dont trade stocks now and focus only the Nifty and I am a happy man/

I maintained a trading blog then and its funny now when I read the reasoning behind my entry into the stock. Those were crazy days.

Then after 30 min I checked the price from my phone n it was 71. I suddenly ran to laptop n saw my order which was not working. Actually net was disconnected. So I reconnect it and what I was watching that net was disconnected before I placed the buy order. Thus miracally I was saved from loss

Hey,

I am quite a new trader. Started before 3 months only.

In the month of Jul2015, I traded with 500 stocks and due to software error couldn’t see whether it was executed. Later after 15 minutes, I had seen that the price went by 10 points and the profit was 5000/-

Was so delighted to book the profit. Later with such confidence I decided to trade a little more with same number 500 stocks. In next minute, it went down 10 points.

The five thousand profit seen before one minute was not Zero…
