We often hear announcements like: GST on many medicines reduced from 12% to 5% to make healthcare affordable.
But are people actually seeing lower prices?
My example:
I regularly use an eye lubricant/cooling medicine for dry eyes, irritation during construction site visit .
Before GST reduction: ₹215
After GST reduction for few weeks: ₹197
Now: Back to ₹215 again
GST shown now: 5%
So if GST reduced, how did the final price return to the old level?
Possible reasons:
- Base price increased?
- Manufacturer revised MRP?
- Distributor/retailer margins?
- New batch pricing?
Has anyone tracked medicine prices before and after GST changes?
Would be interesting if others can share real examples reducing GST helped end users .
