Precautions while closing trading and demat accounts

I am looking to close my ICICI Direct Demat and Trading accounts. There are no holdings in these accounts. I sold my last stocks and mutual funds a few years ago so there has been no activity for some time.

What are the documents I need to download from these accounts for future reference before closing these?

All documents they provide. Tradebook, ledger, interest statements, and most importantly P&L statements.

For demat, CMR copy and holding statements from CDSL/NDSL.

Tradebook, ledger, tax p/l these will be required for filing tax … once the account is closed broker will send a closure confirmation document with the CMR.

Before closing, download the following documents:

  1. Demat Account Holding Statement – to confirm no holdings remain.
  2. Transaction Statements – for historical trade reference.
  3. Tax-related Documents – like the Capital Gains Statement for past transactions.
  4. Fund Transfer Proofs – if you transferred funds from the account.

These will be useful for future tax filings or audits.
