Rules for FIIs and DIIs to invest/trade

Hello There!

I had few queries, tried to get them answered through some available resources but couldn’t get exact information.

Can somebody please help me with the questions mentioned below?

  1. Does FIIs have permission to place trades in the intraday market for any assets such as stocks, currencies, or futures and options?
  2. If yes, are FIIs allowed to do short-selling in any of the assets?

Same questions about DIIs too:

  1. Does DIIs have permission to place trades in the intraday market for any assets such as stocks, currencies, or futures and options?
  2. If yes, are DIIs allowed to do short-selling in any of the assets?

Any supporting reference document link would be greatly helpful.

Thank you!

This article explains it briefly -

If you are interested, you can refer to SEBI’s Operational Guidelines for FPIs which goes into much more detail.

Also, Nithin answered a similar query a long time back -

Since that answer, Mutual Funds (which are part of DIIs) have had some rule changes -
