I have recently opened a demat account with Zerodha. I have not been informed as to which stock exchange my account belongs. I am not even sure if my query makes sense. I hope it does.
When you open an account with us, you can trade on both stock exchanges NSE and BSE.
Thank you for your reply. But I think when you open a demat account, it will be tied down to either the BSE or the NSE depending on who hold your dematerialised securities - CDSL or NDSL. While one can buy on either of the exchanges, the charges will be more when you trade in the exchange different from the one to which your account is linked to. At least that’s what I think. I hope someone can educate me on this. Thank you.
Central Depository Services Ltd, (CDSL)
That’s not how it works. Once you open a trading account, you can buy/sell on either of the exchanges.
Again, your account is not linked to any exchanges. Of course, the transaction charges are different on the NSE and BSE, that’s how they compete to get the volumes.
Thank you very much Sanket.
