UI changes in KITE causing huge trading impact

Hi @nithin ,

For God’s sake please review this product design. This has costed lakhs of rupees & I feel many are suffering the same. Without trying to get user feedback how such crucial changes got implemented, I wonder.

In trading most of the time first decision making is utmost required.

This order placement overlay doesn’t set default to Quantity every time it opens. It holds the last order placement state.

Means if someone’s last buy/sell order in LOT, in next trade it opens with default selection of LOT.

This can create huge fat finger error. I have lost huge sum in lakhs due to this.

My earnest request is to review this UI feature as it could erode account of someone with a small overlook.

Hope you or Kailash will understand the importance.

Thanks,
Anirban

It shows the Qty also, see below the box. This feature of remembering the last state has been live for more than a year, and is extremely popular feature among customers.

I wanted to highlight two major issues when quick action is required for a trader

  1. Default placement of number 1 in the box at beginning. It can create wrong lot size which trader may not be intending for.

  2. The state of the overlay is is stored at watchlist page level. A trader may want to trade small qty in commodity whereas can go higher in index equity. So there can be a chance the trader may forget to switch.
Also if we see Regulator intention, Trade less & which you/Zerodha vouch for !! :grimacing:
So why not to default it with Qty instead of Lot. Like every time it opens it open with lowest possible qty

Please understand I am talking about. a rush situation & to avoid Fat Finger errors.

This UI has given everything what is required. I am not saying its wrong, but it can be one step ahead always, by thinking Trader’s perspective. I believe you definitely would like to discuss this in your inner circle.

A short video to describe my points: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rHk4hslX9al7inZZAthj7TwkTieM4prD/view?usp=drive_link

Order window will show according to what is used last time for that particular underlying for fno segment, in case for commodities if last placed order is for two lots then next time for that contract it will be open with 2 as default, for nifty last placed order is 5 lots then next time it will open with 5 lots etc, you can check once.

For equity it will be always 1.

It seems even after posting detail video, you didn’t understood the actual issue or may be I couldn’t explain you.

Point 1 - Default number coming which can create error
Point 2 - I know last state is saved, Even @nithin replied the same. But that is the exact problem. In hurry trader might overlook between Lot & Qty which can lead to over positioning, calling additional risk leading to account blow off. This is as simple. Anyhow its person to person matters how it’s perceived.

Guess you are the first person to raise this, but got it what you are saying.

Considering it your lack of experience on use cases.

Dear @nithin

I hope my email will find you well.

I had tried to highlight a major UI issue on KITE platform earlier in below link:

UI changes in KITE causing huge trading impact - #5 by Anirban_Chatterje

Yesterday on 22-JAN-2025 in Order Placing Window of KITE,

instead of Quantity it was set as LOT & havoc 35000 quantity NIFTY buy option

got triggered. It generated a massive number of orders.

It cost me a loss of close to 1,80,000

This heavy impact could have been avoided if the Zerodha team took my discussion in #TradingQNA compassionately & allowed a SIMPLE FEEDBACK.

As I requested there should be a USER level setting in CONSOLE whether users can choose whether they want to trade in lot/default by default.

For example, I never want a lot & always want to trade in specific quantities.

This UI design can potentially erode accounts - in a highly tensed market.

I further request your kind attention in this regard & if you can help me with anything. ☹️

Thanks & Regards,
Anirban Chatterjee

Unless user change to lots it would never change but understood that user can accidentally change it on frontend, if order is splitting we show nudge also as secondary alert to avoid these kinds, said that let me pass this to our team to check if we can do something about this.
