What is a Lot in Stock Market?

Hi. Iā€™m new to the stock market. I googled and read few articles on lot. But need to clarify this a little more.

Does lot means size of one unit of a stock ? If yes then is lot different for different stocks ?

For stocks in cash segment minimum order quantity is 1. However for f&o segment be it index or stock we have to buy x number of contracts at a minimum. This minimum tradable unit of x contracts is called a lot. x is the lot size and it varies depending on the underlying.

Adding to what @t7support said. There are some stocks that trade in NSE Emerge and BSE SME segment that are traded in lots. The are stocks of Small and Medium Enterprises, you can learn more on this here:
