I am new into investing and i was just wondering what if i will not have money to invest for any money. Like my income depends on my clients and if any of then back offs the income will fall for sure.

Invest a fixed part of your income as and when you receive it.

What are your thoughts against this method, so far? 🤔

Also, what are you investing/saving for?
(do you have any goals/timelines in mind?)

it is absolutely ok not to invest when you do not have any surplus. This happens to everybody, not everyone will have surplus every month end. The bigger point being save as much as you can when you do get money. The way you have explained, it is critical that you do save as your income is dependent on your clients unlike salary income or interest from FDs. These are my personal views only.

@Sourabhsm, missing a month hurts less than you think. I checked this on Nifty 50 data since 1995, investing ₹10,000 a month for five years.

If you skip one month in every four, your yearly return changes by less than 0.5% in 7 out of 10 cases. Half the time it even comes out slightly better. Missing six months in a row, like when a client leaves, works out about the same. You simply have less money invested. And if you put the missed money in later, you end up within about 1% of someone who never missed.

So @neha1101 is right that skipping is fine. @cvs’s idea of investing a fixed share of whatever you earn works just as well as a fixed amount.

The real danger is being forced to sell. After one year, about 3 in 10 plans were worth less than the money put in. So keep a few months of expenses in cash first.

Note: Nifty price index, no dividends. Past data, not a forecast.

Be aware of taxes too. Booking STCL at 20% and getting LTCG at 12.5% may not be a bad idea.
