when a new security/shares getting listed how do i know in which category it is available for trading?
Usually when a security lists it is in the normal equity segment, if it is otherwise there would be a circular released by NSE. Click here to see the link.
Also if you want to track what category a particular stock is trading in, it is best download the bhavcopy where it would be clearly indicating the same. To download Bhavcopy click here.

If you look into the bhavcopy, you will see scrips with a column named “SERIES”
This column specifies which category the scrip belongs to
EQ - Normal Equity stocks, Intraday allowed
BE - Stocks which trade under T2T (Trade for Trade), Intraday is NOT allowed, only delivery is allowed.
BT - Odd Lot market for small investors with physical shares, max 500 shares
IL - for Foreign Institutional Investors (FII)
BL - Block Trading
IQ - for Qualified Foreign Investors (QFI)
Thanks for the circular link.
If I would have known, I might have searched SNOWMAN listing in BE category instead of EQ.
