BTW, the section on India’s Villages on the Rise: SBI Report Insights in this post published today,
provides some insight into how rural development has outpaced urban development, affecting the the lowest income group (traditionally having the most migrant population).

What’s even more fascinating is that rural areas, not urban ones, have seen the biggest transformation. A decade ago, the rural poverty rate was nearly double that of urban areas—25.7% compared to 13.7%. But now, that gap has narrowed significantly. Urban poverty is down to 4.09%, and rural poverty isn’t far behind, at just 4.86%.

This could explain the drop in domestic migration
and appears to align well with the stats quoted at the very beginning of this topic-thread.

rural-to-urban migration has dropped by 11.8% over the past decade. Back in 2011, there were around 45.6 crore migrants within the country. Today, that number is estimated to be about 40 crore. This means that while roughly 37.6% of India’s population were migrants in 2011, that percentage has now fallen to 28.8%.
