Account Value in Console

Hi Zerodha,

In Console Account Value is it not pertinent to include the Cash Component (like Debt, G-Sec) as well along with others like : Cash Available, Margin Used, Contract Value etc.

I think it will calculate and show Total Account Value more accurately.

Thanks

That is not Equity though, right?
(the graph is the screenshot is showing “Equity Account Value” right)

I was expecting this kind of reply only, but I think I have that much observation, that this is “Equity Account Value” graph as the drop down shows.

But when account is termed it’s more meaningful that how much money of client is involved with client/depository. Hence the question of putting Debt value as well in the graph. I believe Console Portfolio Holding also shows Debt value in the page holding page…

Now coming to your logic of “Equity Graph” may I know what utility of showing Margin here? Is the value considered while calculating “Account Value”?

Thanks

:100: agree with you on the inconsistent labeling going on in this graph.
that is something to be fixed.
Am not sure trying to add some value for any GSECs one holds, is the way to do it though.
Hopefully, someone from Zerodha agrees and improves the labeling.

When dealing with debt / GSECs,
one challenge to keep in mind is how does one assign some value to GSECs that one is holding.

  • Often illiquid (Value = 0?)
  • or trading at a discount to their face-value
that one will receive if one holds them till maturity.

Any thoughts as to what logic/value you would like to see for Debt/GSECs?
(LTP? Zero if illiquid? Face-Value?)

In the above graph,
is the value currently being labelled as “Account Value”
equal to the sum of “Equity holdings” + “Cash balance” ?
(if yes, maybe that’s what it should be labelled as)

Presumably to highlight these secondary stats (Margin, Contracts value) over time for interested folks.
Maybe some active traders can chime-in if/how they use this info.
Thankfully they do NOT appear to be drawn on the chart.
(i.e. not adding more noise to the graph).

As said Console shows the latest value of Debt in portfolio.

Here account value means what is your Net worth in Zerodha which should be sum of equity holding + debt + FNO contract value, imo.

Hi @nithin please share your thoughts if it is useful to include in the graph.

Why? It is part of your portfolio right?

Hi @nithin,

Reason is - Account value gives a feeling what is your net wealth with Zerodha.

  • This equity account value graph doesn’t hold - Debt Value
  • While Portfolio doesn’t hold - Cash Balance

So as a client I don’t have a overall picture in one place what is my net worth?

Just a more accurate depiction isn’t it?

Hi,

We are considering showing a breakdown or a bifurcation between equity and debt components in one’s portfolio on the curve. However, although termed as “Equity account value”, in the current logic also, the holdings value in the curve is inclusive of your debt holdings.

How do you plan to evaluate debt holdings?
Current LTP or Face-Value upon Maturity ?

Depending on what one is looking for,
one of those two values makes sense

  • Current LTP for short-term view.
  • Face-Value upon Maturity for long-term view.

We show current values of holdings right now- whether equity, debt or MF. It would be difficult to maintain separate logic for different components. So it’d be the current value itself that we would show if we are to introduce the breakdown too.
