Algo Trading Streak (Not at all Profitable)

@Streak @cvs

I was recently trying out streak and found that many of their pre-strategies are not profitable if we backtest them and they result in a major loss if we include trading charges (sometimes the trading charges are so high it seems unreal)

Interestingly, I created a simple EMA crossover strategy (9,21 on 5minute timeframe) on NIFTY 50 stocks and backtested it with an initial capital of 10lakh and both target and SL percent at 1%. And the results are just shocking especially after adding trading charges, can someone please confirm is this even true or I am doing something wrong

Strategy Conditions:

Result without trading charges

Result with the trading charges:

Honestly I would be shocked if this were profitable :slight_smile:

Hi @Walker

  1. Kindly note that the pre-built strategies available on the platform are intended solely for educational and learning purposes. They are not buy or sell recommendations, and users are encouraged to use them as references or starting points to understand how to build and test their own strategies effectively.

Note: Backtesting on Streak allows users to measure the hypothetical performance or returns of an strategy and past performance is not indicative of Future Results.

  1. Since the number of trades generated in your backtest is high, the overall trading charges will also be significantly higher especially when testing across 50 stocks. As a workaround, you can try limiting the number of trades to 1 or 2 per day using the ‘Daily strategy cycle’.

Thank you for your understanding.

Even to implement a successful strategy in 5 min tf requires extraordinary skill and commitment.
Especially when things like this happen:

Observing your strategy, looks like exit condition is not strong enough. Exit condition can have trailing stop-loss too set. And in the Nifty 50 stocks list, try to restrict the stocks below 5 or 10 for better results, as you will not be trading with all Nifty 50 stocks when you are in live trade. So just select the stocks based on your trading style… like if you are targeting long entry, select the stocks in green. If you are looking to short, select the stocks in red… Keep 2 strategies, one for long and other for short… On a uptrending today, if you look to short, you will end up in loss and vice-versa…This was you can tweak your strategy and test…
