Any benefit in Income Tax to salaried people?

Interim budget is announced. Now in June 24 final budget session will be there. Can we hope some benefit for salaried class at that time?

No changes to the tax structure. This was confirmed by FM in her speech

There will be changes in the final budget.

I also feel so. But not sure.

At present we all got a “big thanks for paying the taxes” badge. Hope we get something tangible soon.

My 2 cents:

Till the revenue leakages due to non-compliance by majority of small and medium sized businesses and businessmen is not covered, it’s tough to reduce taxes for the 4.8% population who pay taxes

On a brighter note, for someone earning 8-10 Lacs p.a, one can plan taxes in such a way that the obligation is close to zero.

As Government wants everyone to make a transition to new tax regime without exemptions very soon, I think we will see gradual increase in the basic exemption limit to 15-20 L by end of this decade.

Gotta be optimistic in life I guess :grimacing::grimacing:

Somewhat negative view below i guess –

In a decade we get 50-100% inflation anyway, so this does not mean much. And all past years, how much of inflation has taken away from the slabs ?

India is poor, so i guess all these numbers seem huge unfortunately.
Otherwise our purchasing power/value of savings basically vanishes to a fraction if we move out the country.
And we get very high taxation from very low income ( in $) so building up enough savings takes extra effort…

You are very right, there are many people who are still clinging to the old regime because of the obvious reasons.

India is Poor country - how many tax one comman man can pay - then how we can surview this govt management

for health insurance i never fear for premium - but GST is taking 5200 rupees + , so i forced to stop continuing health insurance - because of this goverment - its digital india

in future if anybody dead - govt will compulsery take our organ then they sell in other market - then they will say in parliment we made record ( OT tax - Organ Tax ) collection is 50000 Crore

I think that tax limit should be at least 15 lakhs and people earning below that should not pay any tax. If done then it would be a great relief to common man.

Why 15lakhs? I feel nobody should pay direct tax. Make it 0. Increase indirect tax by 1 percent for good which are currently taxed at 12 percent and higher.
So for earning no tax. For spending pay extra tax.

OK, i will bite…
Let’s do this “beaten to death dance” discussion again then.

Isn’t consumption-based tax regressive,
and hence poses a comparatively larger tax-burden on lower income folks?

I was seeing from PoV of higher tax collection. :joy:
May be increase tax rate only for goods and services which are taxed at 18 percent or above. Even at 18 percent there are few services which don’t come under luxury. So may be have a separate schedule for those goods. Honestly I haven’t quantified the effect and am sure our exchequer can do the math.
I just don’t want to pay tax twice. Once for earning and again for spending.

Imagine stock market going up 20 percent if that happens. So higher stt and stamp duty also when the contract value is much higher. Government will cover the cost of loss of direct taxes.

It would only be a fair game if the govt also tell me where my tax money going to …

As is the case now, the burden of taxes is always felt higher on the lower income households. Mainly because their propensity to consume is higher and expenses like travel, food, and accommodation are not tax-exempt.

I am not saying that the higher-income households are happy to pay the taxes, but the impact is multifold in the lower rung.

…due to consumption-based taxation (GST).

I was trying to highlight the same
that increasing consumtion-based taxation (instead of taxing income salary/gains/inheritance)
will further impact lower and middle income groups more than higher-income group.

Maybe exempt (or refund) even consumption-based taxes
if an individual’s income is below a certain threshold?

Or bring a clause wherein the household can claim a standard deduction for food, travel, and accommodation.
