i want to invest around 10-12 crores in stocks listed on nasdaq but due to lrs i am unable to invest more than 1.75 crores , is there any possible way to do as per rbi rules? @nithin any suggestion.
Get in touch professional HNI asset managers buddy. They’ll easily help you.
yeah the 250k usd LRS limit is per person per financial year, so if you’re looking at 10-12cr (~1.5m usd) you’d need multiple years or pooling across family members. spouse, parents, kids all get their own 250k limit. some people structure it that way if the family’s comfortable co-investing.
the other route is setting up an entity - like an indian pvt ltd can invest abroad under automatic route up to 400% of net worth (used to be lower, got relaxed). that’s way more paperwork though, compliance overhead, audits, fema filings. you’d need a CA who does cross-border stuff to set it up right.
for amounts that size i’d honestly just talk to a cross-border tax/fema consultant before moving anything. the entity route might make sense if you’re doing this regularly, but if it’s a one-time thing the family pooling is simpler. just make sure the beneficial ownership is clean so there’s no gift tax mess later.
