Ask me anything about Zerodha Fund House

Yes, LIQUID ETFs are structured a bit differently so also pay those charges. Rgds

Hi @VishalJain , You have ETF for Mid150 and Small 100. is there a plan to launch mid 150 and smallcap 100 index funds. Not all like to use ETF as it requires Demat account.

Well, as of now on the index fund side our plans are to do more combos and solutions but not individual midcap or smallcap exposures. But feedback noted. Thanks

Hi @VishalJain , Thanks. Does it mean you will provide the model portfolios in index fund format? For ex something like a FOF for Mid and Small like you have for the ETF model portfolio?

We do not have any immediate plans to do model portfolios in index fund format. Feedback noted! Will come back on this.

Hi @VishalJain, whats zerodha amc plan to counter Jio black rock amc, how does zerodha positions its amc business in the market ?

How many gm of gold and silver does 1 unit of zerodha goldcase and silvercase correspond to and how to calculate it?

@VishalJain Given the fast moving pace of commodities prices, How long will you take to purchase actual gold and silver, when the money arrives via ETF? What would be the frequency?

Hi, subscriptions and redemptions usually happens directly through the Fund by market makers generally through a barter system where they provide physical Gold or Silver and take units in exchange of that. So at no given point of time the units are not backed by physical. Hope this clarifies. Rgds

Hey Akash, our main objective is to help improve penetration and so we are a retail-first, passive only fund house, available through direct & digital channels. We think the Indian market has a long way to grow both in terms of the passive penetration and the overall size of the industry which is just 3% of the Indian population. We think there are enough opportunities for everyone to grow and a win-win for investors.

Their fund presentation says

1/10,000th of silver per kg price

Gold should be similar. So, if silver is at 180,000.00, their theoretical iNAV should be 18.0(minus expense ratio[0.3%] and tracking[0.9%]).

@VishalJain Any reason tracking error is almost 1%?

Being a commodity ETF, the Silver ETF has a 3% GST component which sits as an entry in the NAV and leads to a cash drag and in volatile markets leads to a higher tracking error. Secondly, our ETF is relatively new as it has recently crossed six months of existence and tracking error being a statistical function, comes down over time.

@VishalJain Is Zerodha Gold ETF backed by real physical gold ?

Yes. @Anil_Sakala

Do you mean that, commodity ETFs pays 3% gst when they buy gold/silver but the value of gold/silver net of gst is used in valuation.

Thus, commodity ETFs loses 3% gst for every fresh purchase.

Hey Gaurav, GST is a mandatory tax that needs to be paid while buying Gold or Silver in the form of coins, bars or jewellery and is consequently part of the NAV.

Yes, commodity ETFs are generally backed by physical. The regulations also permit the use of ETCDs to a certain % of the portfolio. At this point, Zerodha Gold ETF is backed by physical gold.
