As per Zerodha, the primary account is meant for trading and the secondary one for long-term holdings. We can move a stock between the two and the average price will be adjusted automatically.
My question is — is there a way to buy a stock directly in the secondary demat account instead of the primary?
Example:
Day 1: Stock X at ₹250 — buy and move it to secondary; primary now holds nothing.
Day 2: Stock rises to ₹500 — buy again, this goes into primary.
Day 3: Stock drops to ₹150 — buying now will again go to primary, so average in primary becomes (500 + 150) / 2 = 325.
In this case, since the price has fallen on day-3 below my initial long-term buy (₹250 in secondary), I’d like to buy directly in the secondary demat for long-term holding. But since all trades default to primary, it affects the average cost there.
So, is there any option or setting in Zerodha that allows buying directly into the secondary demat account for such cases?
