Buying ETF's @ iNAV

Dear Nithin, @nithin

Always Zerodha has excited us by bringing new features, You guys are excellent!

We need some kind of feature to buy ETF’s at iNAV or NAV, what in noticed several times is the quoted prices are no where near to iNav’s of most of the ETF’s. Maybe the market maker or liquidity provider gains from this, not the retail investors.

If Zerodha can bring a feature like mapping iNAV’s from various MF Houses will be great thing.!! Or to have some kind of orders specially for ETF’s to buy at iNAV or some percentage below that price.

Looking forward for your reply.

Yep, this is on the lines of what we were discussing last week.

@Roby for now, whenever you place an ETF order, just check the AMC websites for the iNAV and place a limit order. It’s a bit cumbersome, but we’re trying to figure this out.

@Bhuvan It’s great news that you guys are working on something similar.

Can we expect this feature in few months??.

Can’t comment on the timelines : )

@nithin @Bhuvan

Dear Nithin & Bhuvan

Yesterday I heard a part of interview in CNBC TV18 regarding some push from regulator for providing iNav of ETF’s in Exchanges and same to be reflected on trading platforms from July.

Is it true? If so could you please clarify how it will affect the current system?

Yep, the iNAVs of ETFs should show up on Kite. SEBI has asked the AMCs to ensure this, hopefully this should happen soon.

@Bhuvan It’s a great news! Are you guys planning to introduce any kind of order which may buy ETF at iNav itself.

It’s best to use iNAV as a reference price before placing orders because it’s disclosed with a 15 secs delay and not real-time. Also, for international ETFs, it becomes even tricker due to different times, the lack of availability of futures on some of the underlying ETF indices etc.

Hi @Bhuvan i have purchased MOQLTYINAV by mistake instead of buying etf but unable to sell it now as there are no volumes in market depth and getting this error

Order rejected this not a tradeble instrument how can i sell it in this case

That’s not a traded instrument, you cannot buy “iNAV” instruments. Can you check your holdings again?

@Bhuvan @nithin Now we can see inav of ETF on Kite by adding to watchlist. (What is iNAV and how to view it on Kite?) Thanks for this.

But it would be highly appreciated if you guys can make some kind of order to buy ETF at inav or when the price falls below inav. Since now passive investing has become a new trend. And this would be helpful for those who won’t have time to check inav at different points of time , and those who don’t like to go via mutual fund route.

@nithin Happy to see Zerodha fund house growing and launching new ETFs and Pasive Mutual funds.

But I request you guys to bring a feature or order type in kite to buy these ETFs atleast at inav when the perfect conditions meet in background like price volume etc.

Only this is possible by zerodha no one else.

This is a very specific usecase, we’ll figure if possible. In the meanwhile you can add iNAV to your marketwatch and place a limit order

If an etf is trading at premium, if limit triggers, don’t you think iNAV will be lower.:thinking::thinking::thinking:

Can you please explain this. I did not understand.

Assume inav is 100. Market price 120 (at a premium).
I put limit order at inav which is 100. If limit triggers, this means, market price falls to 100. why would inav be lower.

Is inav the actual market value of the ETF.

If four emoji is thinking and could not get it, I am ok, that I did not understand.

If there is 20 rupees premium to iNAV, don’t you think when market price comes to 100, iNAV will come down to 90 ?

Do you think when market price moves from 120 to 100, iNAV will remain at the same price?

This might be a limited use case but it can help long term investors trying to use the passive route

Exactly

Yes my understanding is iNAV will remain the same as this represents the true value of the constituents. In the example, when the market price falls, the premium reduces first.

Is it not. I am not sure.

This is mainly in Nasdaq100 and US based ETFs I have noticed where the market price is higher than the iNAV. FAANG has only buyers and not sellers.
