Market crash like 2008 was happened , if i can remember is during 2005-2006 prior to 2008 crash, 2008 market crash was most remembered/ mentioned event , because during that period many “Techies” ( software engineers ) committed Suicide
I was glued to markets and the news flow from all corners of the world in 2008. No software engineer really committed suicide because of the subprime mortgage crisis in the US.

Well, the percentage drop gives a better picture. In Feb 2000, called the y2k crash,
Nifty crashed from over 1800 to 850 in Sep 2001. That is again a major crash of 53%.
Prior to that, Crash in 1992. Sensex (No Nifty by then) crashed from over 4500 in April 1992 to 1980 in April 1993, a fall of over 56%.

In India " Techie"s" suicides in 2008 are in correlation to Subprime mortgage ripple effect, many suicides are related to Credit card/ housing loan, job loss , not able to pay EMI’s . only to know about this , old news paper cuttings are required.
In 2000 & 2008 the Nifty PE had gone upto 28. The falls were 53% and 65% from the peaks then. This time on 23/01/18, it was 27.81. There could be quite a fall from here. The only stopper would be SIPs, Pension and Insurance funds!
