Can i short the stocks in a day trading session?

i saw a trend reversal pattern and it conforms with the volumes & the resistance line. so as from the book knowledge i tried to short the stocks by selling it first but the problem was i got the order rejected.the message shows “no holdings”. kindly instruct how to short stocks in a day trading session.

Hi!

For shorting stocks in equity without having holdings, you have to select product code as “MIS”.
