Some Ideas
I’ve followed a coffee-can style book for a few years, but with a much smaller list (closer to 10–15 high-quality names, not 1000+). With a huge universe the “can” stops being a can and becomes a broad index with a lot of dead weight.
What helped me judge whether it is “working”:
- Track XIRR of the whole basket vs Nifty 500 TRI over the same period, not individual multibagger count.
- Separate the names that still clear the original quality rules (ROCE, debt, consistent growth) from ones that only looked good at entry.
- Accept that a few will go to zero or stay flat for years; the strategy only fails if the survivors don’t more than make up for them.
Curious what screen or book you used to get to 1000+ — that starting filter usually decides the outcome more than the hold period.
