Could lab grown gold become a reality?

I recently came across this post by a startup called Marathon Fusion that claim to have found a scalable method for making gold from mercury.

If this becomes a reality could this crash gold prices? I suppose the good part is that the gold produced by this method is radioactive and takes 17 years to become safe.

Its not economically possible where the price of gold produced through this method will be less than the current price of gold. Further the fusion technology proposed here is only theory - I mean its correct but currently we do not have the scale of fusion reactors at reasonable cost to make this work
