Deactivate segment permanently.

Hi, I need to permanently close the fno segment. I’ve raised support ticket but they’re saying there is no option to completely deactivate a segment. I went through the support portal but nowhere I can see the exact process for deactivating? Can anyone please help me with this?

It is possible. I have permanently deactivated Derivatives on my account.

Keep asking the support team; they will provide you with the process to do the same.

It is not an easy process you will have to do some work (documents, signatures, etc.).

The process is normally offline, but I managed to do it online.

Thanks for the reply. I have raised tickets but the support keep saying this option is not available. If possible can you please share the workaround? Else I’ll not have the option but to close my whole account.

If they are denying then nothing will help you, because they are from zerodha team, i am not.
i am just an normal user like you are.

at that time when i deactivated Derivatives Permanently 1Year Ago
below is the process, it may not be working now.

Let me remind you once again i am not from Zerodha Team/Support.

To disable the future and options segments, you need to send us the modification form along with the written confirmation letter that you want to disable the derivative segment permanently. Once done, you can never transact (even if you enable it on the console).

Account modification form (PDF)
Courier all the documents to:

Zerodha,
153/154, 4th Cross, J.P Nagar 4th Phase,
Opp. Clarence Public School,
Bengaluru (560078)

We request that you share the scanned copy first and then courier the document so that we can check and confrim.

You can try doing from Login to Kite by Zerodha - Fast, easy trading and investment platform

@Alwin

After going through lot of support tickets back and forth I understood there is no way to deactivate except closing the account :zipper_mouth_face:.

When we disable segments at the exchange level, like disabling BSE-F&O results in other segments being permanently disabled, including the BSE Equity segment. Once the segments are disabled permanently, we cannot re-activate the segments again. Hence, the restriction.

It is easy to disable the segments

This is a temporary disable. I wanted to disable permanently

Any other solution? I’ve equity holdings and don’t want to close the whole account

I think now you have a new feature request. Disable the feature of ‘enabling the segment’
Will have the same effect…

Deactivate the segments before 9 am, and they will stay deactivated for the whole day. The next morning before 9 am, activate the segment and immediately deactivate it again, so it can’t be used that day either. Repeat this process daily. It requires manual work, but it takes less than a minute, which is still better than closing the account. I used to follow this in my early days to maintain discipline.

How is this temporary from a user pov, it remains disabled until the user activates again !

Stop trading if you’re this impulsive. Sorry if that sounds rude, but in the long run you’ll understand why.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve stopped trading a while ago. And I’ve closed all other demat accounts. I’ve spent a lot of years on market analysis and punched 4000+ orders so it has become difficult to stop that one last time urge to trade and end up losing. And since I’ve equity holdings I don’t want to close the whole account. I know it might sound psychology issue but it is what it is. I wanted a solution where this door is closed for me.

:scream:Were you in profit, or how much did you end up losing?

Your only real way out is to build your own frontend using the Kite Connect API and handle orders and portfolio management through that. Avoid opening the Kite web app altogether, if you just need to check charts, TradingView works perfectly, and the good part is both Kite API and TradingView are free.

To put it bluntly, the feature you’re asking from Zerodha doesn’t make sense for the larger user base, so it’s unlikely they’ll build it. Apologies if that sounds harsh, but just being honest. Good luck!
