Dividend yield calculation prior to April 2020

Hello. I require some help regarding some research . So dividend distribution tax was abolished from 2020 April. Prior to that company had to pay close to 20.5% as dividend distribution tax. So i wanted to know the dividend yield published for indices/stocks prior to that date was calculated using dividend using dividend received by the stockholder or the did it also include the tax paid by company i.e.

dividend / share +20.5 percent paid as ddt

or

dividend /share

This.
Dividend yield is always in hand of investor. Does not matter what all hoops company goes through to pay it.

Got it. so post 2020 the published dividend yield numbers by exchanges got a boost if dividend payout by companies was kept the same as DDT of 20 percent was abolished. Basically nse was not calculating dividend yield of indices using dividend payout sum from companies but rather using dividend recieved by shareholders . Can you confirm if this is the case.
