I’ve noticed that when I align my trades with the broader market trend, decision-making becomes much clearer and risk feels more controlled. Counter-trend trades can work, but they demand precision and strong discipline.
I’m curious how others approach trend trading do you rely more on structure, moving averages, or pure price action?
It depends on the market, time frame, and your personality no single method is universally best.
The key is to pick one primary approach (pure price action + structure, moving averages, or a light hybrid) and keep sticking to it instead of constantly switching.
Most experienced traders eventually settle on a simple, repeatable plan they can execute emotionally that is consistent which actually beats continuous changing indicator combos.
Best Practice would be to align all three…
Broad market index ie, Nifty 50.
Sectorial Index ie, Auto/Bank/Fmcg/Pharma/Metal/IT etc.
Individual Stock ie, Maruti/Acis/ITC/Sunpahrma/Jsw/Infy etc.
If all three are aligned up…Best trade for long.
If all three are aligned down…Best trade for down.
Must admit to get all those aligned is a bit difficult.
Mostly u will find Sectorial and Individual Stocks aligned. Still a better trading oppertunity.
Not sure about that.
I am not just against the trend. I an against the common view. I try to do what most don’t. If I too do what others are doing then I will be also be in the majority. And majority of them lose. In markets or in life too.
Worked for me in the last 2 months. Kept selling from 2.6L to 4.2L with an avg of around 3.2L. Bought back almost 90 percent of original qty at an avg of 2.5L now.
Sold gold too at an avg of 150k and now got it all back at 138k. Also have calls sold against it again at 160k now.
Sometimes it does back fire. Really need a lot of patience and have to stick to my game rules. Sometimes it takes as much as 6 to 8 months.
Hey … its very imporant to know kind of opportunities we are looking for becoz for an intraday trader trend could me different from a swing traders …then we see our prefered time frame 5 min or more …then we take our postion …
So trend could mean different thing for different kind of trader…
