During the Pre-open session, what do you mean by ATO in order type?

Whenever I place market orders in pre-open, it seems to get traded as ATO. Check out this screen shot.

Hi Ananth,

ATO is At The Open. During the Pre-Open session any market order placed to buy or sell a stock gets traded as ATO.

If there are only market orders (ATO) on both sides, orders get matched with previous day's close price.

Check out this link on NSE to get a better picture on Pre-Open.

ATO order -  At-The-Open Order

ATO is when you want to place an order to buy or sell at the opening price, which is allowed during Pre-market session.
