When a security is under F&O ban no fresh positions can be created. I find the following situation in NSE in respect of NMDC AUG Futures (Expiring today i.e 26/08/2021)) & SEPT Futures which was under F&O ban for trading today:
AUG Traded Volume (contracts) 8,048 Open Interest 6,06,75,200 Change in Open Interest 29,81,500
SEPT Traded Volume (contracts) 3,077 Open Interest 6,06,61,800 Change in Open Interest 1,14,03,400
My query is: 11) how can there be increase in OI of September futures during ban period 2) Since no fresh positions can be opened, there can only be square offs meaning every contract traded must translate into reduction of OI which does not appear to be the case in as much as there is a wide difference between number of contracts(to be multiplied by lot of 6700 shares) and the OI change, I may be excused for any conceptual misunderstanding in making this query.
