Feature Request: Real-time "What If I Exit Now" P&L and Tax Simulator

Hi,

I would like to suggest a feature for the Kite platform that would greatly benefit active traders and investors.

Feature Name: “What If I Exit Now” Simulator

*he Problem:
Currently, before exiting an active position, it is difficult to calculate the exact net impact. Traders have to manually estimate the final P&L after accounting for brokerage, STT, GST, stamp duty, and exchange transaction charges. For delivery positions, calculating the capital gains tax implication on the fly is even more complex.

Proposed Solution:
Introduce a “What if I exit now?” button or preview screen next to open positions. When clicked, it should show a simulated breakdown:

  1. Gross P&L: Current market value minus average buy price.
  2. Estimated Charges: Real-time breakdown of brokerage and statutory taxes for the exit order.
  3. Tax Implication: An indicator of whether the exit triggers Short-Term Capital Gains (STCG) or Long-Term Capital Gains (LTCG), and the estimated tax amount (especially helpful for holdings).
  4. Net P&L: The actual amount that will be credited or debited to the funds balance after all deductions.

Having this transparent, net-of-tax visual before confirming an exit would help users make much more informed decisions and manage risk better.

Thank you for constantly improving the platform. I hope the product team considers this!

We already show the estimated charges while placing a sell order in the order window, including brokerage, STT, and other statutory charges. The P&L shown on the positions is the gross P&L, so it doesn’t account for exit charges.

I think the suggestion is to show the estimated net P&L after charges before the position is closed. We’ll explore the possibilities.

We already show whether a holding is short-term or long-term in Console. Showing that during exit as well could be useful. This is on our list of things to do.

The tax amount is a bit tricky because a sell order can be matched against multiple purchases under FIFO. In some cases, the same sell transaction can even result in both short term and long term gains depending on when the shares were acquired, etc. That said, we’ve noted the feedback and will check with the team.

Yep, we’ll take a look. Thanks for the detailed feedback.
