GST Registration for FnO Trading

I have been doing FnO Trading since 2021. Over the years, my turnover has increased and this FY(2025-26) my turnover will be approx 4 Cr. My accountant has told me that if my profits from FnO (Business Income) exceed 20L, then I need to have GST Registration. I am expecting my profits to be well over 20L this year. Please guide me because I see different views online

GST Registration is NOT required if you have no other ‘business’ income other than FnO.
Securities (and derivatives) are not covered under GST, they are neither Goods nor Service.
The accountant doesnt know much about FnO, and clearly cannot even be bothered to do basic research. Look elsewhere…

Hey @george1803 ,

Futures and options traders are not required to register for GST even when their turnover crosses ₹20L. The GST Act specifically excludes Securities from the definition of Goods. As per Section 2(52), Goods mean any movable property except money and securities.

Thus, you do not need to register for GST.
