How is upper circuit and lower circuit decided for stocks?

How is upper circuit level and lower circuit decided for stocks? I used to think it was 5% 10% 20% but today rbl bank had a circuit at 7.5% it makes no sense. This levels are different for stocks and feel like manipulation!

guys can some one pls let me know

Circuit Limits are calculated based on previous day’s closing price of the stock. These vary from stock to stock, 2%, 5%, 10%. This is explained in NSE website here.

RBL Bank was locked at 10% Circuit Limit only, not 7.5%. RBL Bank closed on 29th Dec at 144.3, so for 30th Dec, lower circuit will be 10% down of 144.3, ie. 129.9, this is where the stock was locked yesterday.

It looks like you were seeing marketwatch change based on day’s opening price. RBL Bank opened at 140.9 yesterday and lower circuit price of 129.9 was around 7.8% down from this price.

Hence you were seeing it locked at 7.5% circuit limit rather than 10% :slightly_smiling_face:
