How much time it take for shares to transfer in Zerodha? (gift shares)

How much time it take for shares to transfer in Zerodha?

I initiated the process of gift shares from one Zerodha account (husband) to another Zerodha account (wife) on the weekend and authorized CDSL on Monday.

What next? How much time will it take to reflect the shares to the wife’s account?
There is no email after that from Zerodha

@ShubhS9

Once you have completed the process, the securities are moved to the recipient’s demat account and will be visible in their holdings the next day.

Could you please create a ticket here, so our team can check this?

@ShubhS9 Any update. The ticket was created on 14th Aug but there is still no update on the ticket

Apologies, missed this. I’m checking this.

What is considered as a buy date for the recipient??

Suppose, I bought shares in 2022 and holding them for 2 years now, and now have transferred them to a relative on 20 Aug 2024.

  1. What will be the buy date for these shares? will it change??
  2. Is there any limit on how much I can transfer to wife? I read there is no taxation and no limit but can you please confirm it?

For tracking and reporting purposes, the stock’s closing price on the day the stock gets transferred is the exit price for the person gifting the stock, and the same price is used as an entry price for the person receiving the gift. Explained here.

There is no taxation on sender, but the recipient of the gift is liable to pay the taxes. You can learn more on this here.

The statement is confusing. Can you please explain with an example?

Person A bought shares on
Date: 19 Aug 2022 at share price 100

Transfers all the shares to Person B
Date: 19 Aug 2024, share closing price = 150
Suppose Person B song it after a month at 160 Rs

Questions:

  1. Person B avg share price will be 150 instead of 100?? what about the 50 Rs profit per share??
  2. Person B exited with a profit of (160-150) 10 Rs but what about the earlier profit from 100 Rs to 150 Rs? How will the Person B show it in the capital gains? Will Person B show a capital gain of 10 Rs per share profit for the short term?
