Is it even possible to have both long and short positions open in equity market. Not talking about f&o
For intrday you can do by buying in cnc and selling in mis(intraday) , or buy in mis in nse and sell on BSE in mis or viceverasa, but one can’t carry shorts for eq for next day.
I am asking this based on my understanding of your reply.
So having two opposite MIS positions (a buy and a short sell) in different exchanges will not lead to automatic square off is it ?
Meaning squaring off is possible only within the same exchange.
Also, if for stocks CNC I can buy In one exchange and sell in another, why is the same not applicable to MIS intraday.
No for mis( intraday) as of now.
I din’t get this.
What I meant was, for example, I bought a stock for delivery in BSE and it got credited to my Demat account, now after a few days, when I want to sell it, l can sell it even in NSE too right ?
IMO, There is no restriction that a stock bought in one exchange (BSE) needs to be sold in the same exchange (BSE).
So i was trying to ask why the same concept doesn’t apply to MIS intraday trades
There is no concept of mis at exchange level, brokers create those products types.
