How to get lost physical shares?

My grandfather told me that he had Canara Bank physical shares, worth 60K when he last checked their value in 2002.
He misplaced them somewhere and couldn’t find them anywhere. He bought them from Karvy broker, the one who is not in business anymore.
Can someone please tell me the process to get these shares back as he doesn’t even know the quantity.

Also is there a chance that if somebody got his hands on these physical shares he lost years ago, he be able to make money out of it?

click on the above link under “unclaimed dividends” and you will see the list of unclaimed dividends. Check the excel sheet if your grandfather name is there. If so, at least you can use this info. If no, check his bank account from July to Sept each past year as Canara Bank pays dividend once a year in June/July.

If he has a pancard number you could contact the registrar and ask them to trace it.

I was thinking what I would do if I were you and would do the above.

All the best.

at your address you must be getting letters from company to get KYC done . you must also be getting physical annual report plus physical cheque of dividend .all these do have your FOLIO NO . put your query to Registrar with folio no .

I think you must file a police complaint (FIR), share a copy with the RTA and then go about obtaining new physical share certificates again. I read this here - How can lost share certificates be dematerialised?
