in zerodha how to import my stock list file

This is not available as of now, you need to manually enter the stocks.

wish this feature exists … also to add them to watch lists

In Zerodha’s Kite platform, you can’t directly import a stock list (like a CSV or Excel file) into your Watchlist—at least not natively. But there are a couple of smart workarounds depending on what you’re trying to do:

:basket: If You Want to Execute Trades from a File (Basket Orders)

Zerodha does allow importing a file for basket orders. Here’s how:

  1. Go to OrdersBaskets in Kite Web.
  2. Click New Basket → Give it a name.
  3. Click the Import icon (:inbox_tray:) and upload your file (usually .csv).
  4. Review and execute the basket as needed.

:small_blue_diamond: This is great for batch execution, especially if you have a pre-defined list of stocks with quantities and order types.

More details are available on Zerodha’s support page for basket imports.

:clipboard: If You Want to Add Stocks to Watchlist from a File

Unfortunately, Zerodha doesn’t support CSV upload to Watchlists directly. You’ll need to:

  • Open your file (CSV/Excel) and copy the stock symbols.
  • Paste them one by one into Kite’s search bar and add to your watchlist manually.

The most underrated feature a trader would ask for is this -

“Unfortunately, Zerodha doesn’t support CSV upload to Watchlists directly.”

UX starts with features that are most used not the shiny unused features, not sure why is it so hard to allow multiple (CSV) stocks to add at once to the watchlists :man_shrugging:

is there any way to download the complete watchlist in csv format? in zerodha or any other broker?

If I remember correctly, only interactive broker give that option.

like?

Upstox has similar feature rolled out recently … I mean you can add multiple scrips to the watchlist at once. They listen to the users atleast

Importing Multiple symbols using CSV file or Copy Paste functionality.

Yes, importing multiple symbols using .csv file or Copy Paste functionality with the import box is really essential for creating long watchlists like e.g. lists of Futures contracts for Front month or Next month or any other customized watchlist as per individual preferences which may not be available in the ‘Discover’ section of ready-made watchlists. Especially, when we have such a good capacity of 250 symbols in custom watchlists, it is likely to get very boring and time consuming to create long watchlists by adding the symbols manually.

The developers should have enabled this functionality right at the time when they increased the capacity of custom watchlists to 250. So, despite having such good capacity in the watchlists the users cannot utilize it fully due to lack of this functionality of importing multiple symbols using copy paste functionality or importing using csv file.

Some of the brokers like Dhan and Upstox have already enabled this feature in their platforms. I don’t understand why Zerodha team is lagging behind.

More users and community members should insist on this functionality so that the back-end team will take notice and prioritize it.

Can somebody from Zerodha team clarify regarding any possibility of such functionality coming in future updates?

Should we really keep any hopes for such a functionality for creating our custom watchlists?

Otherwise simply giving capacity of 250 symbols in a custom watchlist makes no sense if we have to keep doing the same monotonous task of typing, searching and adding each symbol manually.
