After a fairly successful career in Digital marketing - I decided that i want to be fulltime in the Stock market. I thought applying for ‘customer support specialist’ with Zerodha was a natural for that objective. And I think I flunked the final interview today in weird ways. Dont ask!
You feel bad when you know you had it and let it slip like a goofy goofball!
I think i also overspoke due to my anxiousness. I actually asked the HR after answering a question - ‘Does that sound reasonable to you?’ Its been a decade since I gave an interview, but even so that was … off…
The interviewers were all good guys though! As good as Zerodha.
If anyone wants the job and have questions, please ask.
I think Il take a break and refocus. Feeling silly. Rant over. Feel free to bring on admonitions, I deserve it all!
In my view, everything happens for a reason. It takes a lot of gall and guts to put up this post in a forum. This shows your character. Take it easy on yourself.
Depends how “full” is your full-time. For a positional trader who loves the markets, who doesn’t need more than 15 minutes of active market hour time and who enjoys giving advice and help, this could be a good thing. And trade prep for such can be after work hours.
Definitely not for the active trader I suppose. And monetary benefit is not the (major) critertia for me, far from it. Opportunity to learn, be a part of their internal forum excites me, I think there’s a lot to explore, and when it’s your job, it is a responsibility which will drive you to learn everything you can, in a place that I expect is primed to learn. And maybe garner some stock options someday
I don’t know everything, but I can find out everything for the customer and for myself. That is growth! I am in a reasonably comfortable place, its time to get deeper into things I love. This is ONE way!
@Vij Interviews can be tricky sometimes. More so when you are on the other side of the table after a while. I’d share one of my experiences. So the company where I am working currently for the last 5 years, only some time back I got to know that I had failed in the aptitude test round due to some miscalculation. So HR had put up a question mark on my hiring. It’s only when the person who had recommended me there in the first place, put his neck on the line saying I know why I am hiring this guy. Only then they agreed to offer. After successfully working on many campaigns, now it’s a matter to look back and laugh about. So yes, indeed sometimes you need someone, maybe just one person to overlook and bet on you. In my case, it was easier because the one who recommended me had worked with me beforehand.
In your case, imo empathy is the most important skill to be a customer support specialist. Technical skill, and domain knowledge, etc. one can acquire. But empathy is different. Regardless of whether one is employed with Zerodha or not, if anyone is thinking about the peer investors, answering their queries on this forum, sharing knowledge, etc, has that what’s needed for the job. You’ve already been doing that.
As @siva-reddy mentioned you can reapply 3 months later. All the best, man!
Thanks @rupeshmandal
I think I answered some of the more involved questions. But I had a brain-freeze on the first one, which I am sure was there as a freebie. There’s no coming back from that blunder, no matter what happens after that! I think that weighed on me for the rest of the interview, I kept kicking myself in my mind
I just feel bad for doing that to myself. Its not just about messing up the interview - I feel I let myself down when among my peers. That’s all.
@vij i know you are analytical (based on responses to my other posts) & like to deep dive. With more hardwork you should soon fix your shortcomings & be part of zerodha team. wish you the best ! only thing i saw in your responses was that you were too critical based on partial knowledge…nothing to do with your interviews but just my assessment & may help if you find this feedback right. God luck & life always give you second chance & opportunities.
Thank you @CoolBird I will try to improve.
Yes, we do have a small history I suppose. I must say from my interactions with you, I found you to not be careful of(or acknowledge) certain aspects of your strategies and not open to debates and that you took criticisms and alternate views personally. But I think this isn’t a revelation to you, you perhaps already know this from our previous interactions. Good luck to you too!
if you see like you many guys only criticize others in forums & this is why people refrain from sharing their strategy as unsuccessful guys only find faults with successful traders…guys who really want to learn would nicely send DM & i’ve tried to respond though sometimes it gets difficult with too many posts…there are several investors who are already gaining from my system…this is not to boast etc as i’m a learner for life & keep working on new strategies…one has to keep ego aside & stay positive. again, pls don’t react to my views as all these may not apply to you…
Thank you @CoolBird for taking “this opportunity” to share your views. You did well. After all a good trader is one who pounces on low hanging opportunities.
@vij zerodha folks watching these posts…pls do consider Vij post 3 months as i see that your customer support does need people with analytical skills as when we talk at times we see that your guys don’t understand the context or not able to resolve queries on calls…
Thanks @CoolBird
The venting is done and I feel better already. It’s all good and I am now not sure if this thread belongs here - @siva-reddy and @ShubhS9 could you please delete this thread.
