ICICI Direct offer

Any thoughts on this offer from ICICI Direct? :

“Demat transfer offer has been launched this year in the month of May. With this offer you get free brokerage upto 15,000 when you transfer stocks held by you in a Non ICICI Bank demat to Demat account linked with your ICICIdirect.com account.”

So, how about transferring Zerodha shares into ICICI Direct especially the long term investment ones? We get the advantage of portfolio analysis, sectoral analysis, CAGR calculation and so many other benefits.

Well, firstly free brokerage of ‘upto’ Rs.15,000 can even be a free brokerage of Rs.100. You gotta clearly read the terms and conditions there. Also, if they’re giving you upto 15k free brokerage, then they will have to recover this money from you in some other form or at a later date.

Coming to numbers - sectoral analysis, cagr calculation, this is only data. Sectoral analysis is available on various websites. Cagr is just a formula. Most of the analysis should be done before you buy stocks, generally speaking.

Also, you need a forum like TradingQnA by Zerodha to even post this question.

Talking from my point of view, I don’t think I’d ever move. Maybe cos i’m addicted to Kite and Coin. The beauty and intent in these products is unparalleled but maybe that’s jus me. Anyway, let’s see what others have to say.

Don’t move to ICICI ever, the brokerage is too high (lowest is 0.25%). Also there are other hidden issues on brokerage calculation. I found it hard way.

Having said that, they do have some added advantage in terms of P&L display, overall portfolio holding display etc.

If you are a day trader, don’t use it. Zerodha (even if its certain short coming) is much better.

my 2 cents:

Disclaimer: I have a large portfolio in ICICI, but I will be moving it to Zerodha soon.

Thanks

Ah I have a vested interest answering this , other than what others said above, ICICI won’t let you enter purchase price of the transferred in quantity like we allow you to do (Discrepant holdings). So there wouldn’t be any portfolio analysis at all on transferred in stock.

Prepaid Brokerage Plan you get discounted brokerage rates, and you save money on your exchange cost. A prepaid business plan accompanies a legitimacy of 15 years. You can use the brokerage amount until it is depleted inside the range of 15 years.

You can check the ICICI brokerage Plan more in details at Select by Finology and can even Calculate the brokerage by using ICICI brokerage calculator for free.

as per my old experience, using prepaid sim card can be more useful than prepaid brokerage.
prepaid brokerage plans are just trap to hold traders with them.
most of time the clients, who use prepaid brokerage plan, keep focus on break heaven point not on big profitable trades. and lastly end up with nil balance. better to focus on learning, developing winning strategies and then start trading (either intraday or positional).
paying advance money to get lower slab in not a good idea, & subscribing the prepaid plan is a very bad idea when other discount brokers are already offering the same.
