“No one can see a bubble. That’s what makes it a bubble.” - Michael Burry in ‘Big Short’
Hi everyone!
Can you suggest some really good movies or documentaries on finance and derivative markets which explain real life scenarios in detail. Below are some of them which I know and were really helpful to me, do share your views!
Big Short (2015 movie on the US sub prime crisis)
Inside Job (Detailed documentary on 2008 global crisis)
The Rogue Trader (A 1999 movie on Nick Leeson’s life)
Margin Call (A 2011 movie on Lehman Brothers Bank)
Million Dollar Trader (A TV series on amatuar traders who are given a million dollars to invest)
Although this movie does not completely delve into the world of finance but it is an integral part of the story. This is a dark comedy and has to be one of Eddie Murphy’s best performances till date. Its a story about two elite brothers who are owners of a commodity brokerage firm and how they place a bet to conduct a social experiment on two individuals from different strata of society. The highlight of the movie is the climax which is set in a commodity stock exchange.
Trivia : When this movie was released, trading on insider information obtained from the government was not considered illegal. The most interesting and surprising fact is that it was banned in 2010 under a provision names as the EDDIE MURPHY RULE You can read more about it here in this article published by WSJ.
But, before you read that article I would suggest you watch the movie to understand the plot.
I am also downloading its sequel “Wall Street : Money never sleeps - 2010”. I download Audio or Video on Webtorrent client for windows cause you can view while streaming.
