I placed an intraday trade on 30-3-2026, which settled on 2-4-2026 due to holidays. My broker’s Tax P&L report for FY 2025-26 doesn’t include this trade (since settlement fell in FY 2026-27), but from what I’ve read, income tax treats speculative/intraday income by trade date, not settlement date.
Questions:
Is trade date or settlement date the correct basis for including this in FY 2025-26?
Should I manually add this trade to my FY 2025-26 calculation and file accordingly, or just go by the broker’s report as-is?, If i do this i am worried that income tax refers to Brokers tax report and it won’t match with mine
Would appreciate views from anyone who’s handled this before. @Quicko
This will be considered as intraday for intraday transaction, you need to manually adjust the entries in FY 2025-26 calculation and proceed to file ITR.
@Quicko Thanks, that’s what I planned to do — treat these as intraday and manually adjust the entries for FY 2025-26. But my CA strongly advises against this, saying that in case of an IT enquiry, they will rely on the broker statement rather than the manual adjustment which i have done
Trade date is considered for the purpose of reporting in ITR. Since the trade was carried out on the same day it would be considered as Intraday only. Brokers in their report consider settlement date. You can manually adjust that entry and show it as an Intraday.
