Introducing Terminal Mode on Kite - Beta

You can now customise Kite’s layout. Drag and place your marketwatch, charts, order book, and positions wherever you want on the screen. Open multiple pages at once: side by side, stacked, whatever works for you. You can also resize each panel based on your preference and screen size. If you have a larger monitor, no more wasted screen space. This is currently available on Kite Beta.

moving widgets

Earlier, for things like a margin calculator, a brokerage calculator, or an economic calendar, you had to leave Kite and visit the Zerodha website. Now, all of this is available inside Kite itself. No clutter either. You choose which widgets to open and keep only what you need on your screen.

We’ve also redesigned order book, positions, holdings, and option chain to work seamlessly as adjustable widgets.

Here’s a quick list of all the new widgets you can set up on the terminal mode:

New widgets:

Quick Order:

For scalpers and active traders who need speed. Place market orders instantly without any confirmation pop-up. Product type and market protection can be configured in settings.

scalper mode

Top panel:

A live ticker with instruments of your choice, total P&L from positions, and available margin are displayed across pages. All of this can be turned off if you prefer a cleaner view.

You can click on the P&L to quickly access the positions page, or click on margin to view the complete margin breakdown in a dropdown.

Apart from the top panel ticker, you can add an additional tickers widget with custom instrument lists. Helpful if you track different sets of stocks for different purposes.

Company Updates:

All critical filings and announcements made by companies to the exchange, available in one place. You can filter to see only updates related to stocks in your holdings.

Economic Calendar:

Track major macroeconomic events like RBI policy announcements, US Fed meetings, GDP data releases, and more. Useful for traders who factor macro events into their trading decisions.

Notes:

Jot down observations, trade ideas, or lessons learned during your trading session. Everything stays within the platform, no need for external apps or paper.

YouTube:

Embed and watch market news or live streams alongside your trading screen. Useful for those who follow business channels while trading.

Order Window:

A sticky order window that stays on screen while you work. You can switch instruments, link it to charts, and place orders without leaving the page.

Margin and Brokerage Calculator:

Check required margins and calculate brokerage for any trade directly within Kite. No need to visit separate pages or switch tabs while planning your positions.

Market Depth:

Keep the market depth of any instrument sticky on your screen. Useful for tracking order flow and liquidity while analysing charts or managing positions.

Brokerage Calculator:

Calculate brokerage and other charges for your trades within the platform. No need to switch tabs or use external tools.

Calculator:

A simple calculator for quick calculations while trading. Handy for position sizing, averaging, or any on-the-fly math.

World Clock:

Track time across different countries. Particularly useful for those trading or tracking US and European markets, or for waiting on global data releases.

Holiday Calendar:

Check trading holidays for NSE, BSE, and MCX within Kite. No need to search online every time you want to confirm if markets are open.

Zerodha Updates:

Stay informed about new features, process changes, or important announcements from Zerodha. Everything you need to know, accessible within Kite.

Nithin’s Updates:

If you like staying updated on Nithin’s posts on markets and business, this widget lets you track all of them directly in Kite.

Google Calendar:

Embed your Google Calendar to view your schedule while trading. Never miss meetings or personal commitments while you’re on Kite.

Upcoming IPOs:

View all upcoming IPOs in one place. Useful for investors who actively participate in IPO applications.

Wallpaper:

Personalise your trading screen with an image of your choice. A small touch to make the platform feel more like your own.

Pomodoro Timer:

A time management tool for disciplined trading. Set focused trading intervals and breaks to avoid burnout and overtrading.

Pomodoro

Flying Kite and Snake games:

Feeling stressed after a rough trading day? Take a short break with these simple games built into the platform.

Workspaces:

You can save up to 10 workspace layouts, switch between them instantly, and even share your setup with others. We’ve also included a few preset layouts to help you get started quickly.

Note:

  • Currently, only TradingView charts are supported. ChartIQ isn’t available in Terminal Mode.
  • Chart preferences handling across workspaces is still being worked on, and there are a few minor functions and fixes pending on our list. These will be addressed in upcoming updates.

Give it a try on Kite Beta and let us know what you think. If you’ve built a workspace you’re happy with, share a screenshot — knowing the types of setups users are creating will help us improve the product further.

Love it. It’s super flexible, and right out of the gate, it’s hitting the spot for everything I wanted in a terminal. The ability to see economic calendar and YouTube is a thoughtful addition I must say.

Superb. Let me check. You should have added GTA VI instead of snake game.

Love it! Are orders auto sliced when quantity is above freeze in quick order panel?

Yes, the orders are auto-sliced even in the quick order. Currently, it supports only 20 slices; we will increase it to 50 shortly.

@Chetan_Nahata @asifali @CT143
Can check Terminal mode now.

Add kill switch as widget as well, (should only disable for the day and re-enable tomorrow automatically)

Make it mobile compatible with extensive mobile browser testing?

For example, if I open “Chart in new window” from marketwatch, right half the screen with the chart is not visible at all and not accessible. Only the left half with open positionsis visible. Sometimes, alerts can’t be created from charts: The “+” button on chart to create a alert basically does nothing sometimes. I have to log out/login again to make it work.

How can i check? @siva

thank you for terminal mode , its nice and good , please add shotcut up arrow and down arrow for chart loading from martket watch , thank you very much

Here are my initial impressions -

  1. The charts should be autosaved asap, otherwise manual setup every time is impossible.

  2. I couldn’t understand the usage of the swap option available on the top right corner of the widget.

  3. Providing access to Orders on the top panel, next to positions will be helpful. should be able to turn it or off from the header widgets.

  4. I don’t find an option to link all my selected widgets except for few widgets like quick order. I saw other brokers where I can link widgets using numbers or colours like below -
    image

  5. Expected pre-defined layouts like index+call, index+put, call+put etc., atleast in scalper layout.

  6. Unless the respective widget is added to my layout, the relevant data is not reflected. Example, if I select option chain from the watchlist scrip using 3 dots, it is asking me to add the respective widget first rather than showing option chain.

  7. Expecting the following widgets - A] Top options showing ATM, High OI, High Vol calls & puts;
B] OI analysis, C] Straddle option chain D] Strategy Builder E] Pnl journal in calendar format.

  8. Default settings for Target & SL, Trailing SL.

  9. No option to adjust the size of the order window once selected from the watchlist Buy or Sell.

  10. Unable to enlarge the option chain in the below case, maybe because of order window data issue -

  11. Expected more custom fields in the option chain like OHLC columns, strike wise PCR column, volume etc.,

  12. Notification sound setting for the order confirmation.

  13. Along with economic calendar, an event calendar with alerts option especially showing the corporate results.

Very powerful upgrade. Please add technicals like top gainers, top losers in real time. This is one very important feature of many terminal .exe softwares where the stocks get updated in real time whoever is forming highs or lows. technicals.zerodha.com has it but that is not realtime but even integrating that in terminal mode is a good start at this stage.

The terminal mode and its features were designed specifically for desktop/laptop browsers to take full advantage of larger screen space and allow customizable widget layouts based on individual preferences. Since mobile browser screens have significantly smaller resolutions, these features aren’t compatible, which is why we’ve disabled the terminal mode option in mobile browsers.
That said, we’re actively working on implementing the multiple charts functionality, trade-from-charts capability, and alert creation directly within the Kite mobile app.

Auto-save is available; you need to enable it via right-click. Please note that preferences are not yet handled properly. Yet to fix a few things for a better experience, will be fixed before going to live.

Refer to the screenshot below, number 1 has multiple tabs. If someone wants to move the entire panel with all tabs to the number 2 position, this helps drag and swap the position.

Feedback noted.

This is in discussion.

Yes, I don’t think the terminal mode can open the widget and place it automatically somewhere would be good experience. it is better to user add it as per their requirement.

some of these are in work in progress.

Order window widget has minimum size, cannot reduce the height more than that.

@Arockiya_Raja , can’t we select any one particular workspace as default one ???

That’s fine, but the specific issues I mentioned were outside the terminal mode and directly related to Kite on mobile web -not even the beta.

Also, what about terminal mode on tablets, samsung dex modes, android desktop modes? Blanket banning seems hardly fair. If you do want to disable, maybe disable based on screen resolution/size?

clock

can you add a (second) also in digital clock. like HH:MM:SS
