Just 5 Minutes for a Big Idea – From a Class 12 Student in Goa

Dear Mr. Nithin Kamath,

I hope you’re doing well. My name is Faraz Sayed, and I’m currently studying in Class 12 in Goa.

I’ve been working on an idea that’s somewhat like what Uber did for transportation—but applied to a completely different sector. I believe it has the potential to turn into a successful company with just some computers and a few big brains behind it.

I even tried reaching out to the CEO of Uber, but unfortunately didn’t get a response. That’s why I’m writing to you—I truly admire your work, and I’d be grateful if you could spare just five minutes so I can explain the concept to you.

Thank you for your time, and I really hope to hear from you.

Warm regards,

Faraz Sayed

FWIW, ideas along the lines of “Uber for X”,
where X is a different domain,
are a dime a dozen,

Even without knowing anything about the idea,
statistically it is unlikely that
it is novel, or something noone has thought of yet.

That said, just in case maybe it IS something that noone thought of yet,
here are a few typical challenges overlooked in “Uber for X” pitches -

  • real-world challenges with scaling, where scaling costs dominate / are significant.
i.e. simply throwing computers at the problem doesn’t help.

  • chicken-egg issues that necessitate a huge upfront investment without returns for a significant period to first create a market. This makes other investments far more appealing instead of investing in this venture.

    • Especially in the current period,
where there is no “free/easy investor money” to burn upfront,
  • Depending on how we look at it, Uber isn’t a successful model either.
Especially in places where their attempt at regulatory arbitrage failed.
So, not something appealing to be emulated,

@Faraz_Sayed Hopefully, you can review the above challenges
and prepare the plan on how to avoid such challenges in the “Uber of X” idea you have,
