I’m planning to create an all-weather portfolio. First, could you please list the available liquid asset classes I can invest in? Some that come to mind are gold, equity, debt, and REITs. Are there any other worthwhile options I should consider? Thanks,
You can invest in equities, debt funds, gold, REITs, and even cash. Other good options include international ETFs, InvITs, and arbitrage funds. These give flexibility and help manage risk in all market conditions. Choose based on your goals and time horizon.
Fixed Deposite
Recurring Deposits
interest bearing sb ac
post office mis
post office fixed deposit
Nps
Corporate Bond Debt Fund seem great at the moment.
Also- Arbitrage funds. It’s just as liquid as debt fund but tax is lower (if you’re in a higher tax bracket).
All weather portfolio demands periodic rebalancing. There are couple of factors which you need to consider
-
Every asset class had different kind of capital gain structure. You should be prepared for handling complexity while doing quarterly advance tax payment
-
Asset class like REIT pays dividend. you have to keep track and reinvest those dividend back while payingc appropriate taxes
-
FDs. cooperate bonds … when you are selling them for rebalance before tenure, you may get less than what is promised returns.
you will need to think how you can handle above pointsLast few years the tax structure is changing somewhat unpredictably. It may happen in future also. for example Its really confusing and hence difficult to validate tax liability gold ETFs profit purchased in last 5 years.
Personally I will prefer to invest in couple of aggressive multi asset mutual funds which invest equity, gold, international equity and debt instead of creating my own all weather portfolio
Original all weather portfolio concept considers few other things like energy but i am not sure if we have easy means to include it in individual portfolio.
Thanks for your inputs, makes good sense. Which 2 multi asset funds would you choose if you were investing?
