Why do exchanges revise the lot size?
SEBI mandates that the contract value of all F&O contracts remain between 5 to 10 Lakhs. In the periodic review(every 6 months), if the contract value of a scrip is beyond this range, there is an upward or downward revision in lot size.

noob question. if banknifty lot size is now 25 from 20, Is this good or bad for the trader? do you get more for the same margin/funds as compared to earlier?

Earlier you used to Gain/Lose Rs. 20 for each point Up/Down move in Bank Nifty now you will Gain/Lose 25 for each point Up/Down move in Bank Nifty.

Well here hare some effects (as per me), you be the judge if that’s good or bad for you:

  1. You now have to keep a larger margin aside per lot.
  2. That’s it. Secondary effects will depend on what strategy, capital allotment, and risk management techniques you use.

no, margin is required according to new lot size bro. not substantial increment tho.
