So i have some long term capital loss from property sale last FY.
I am looking at the best way to adjust it against gains.
I have unrealized gains in Mutual funds - all in debt / arbitrage.
-
Debt funds before cutoff. Earliest ones are from 2021. I think they get charged 12.5% now without indexation. And if i sell, i lose the special rate for future gains.
-
Debt funds after cutoff. They get charged at slab rate. Have holdings that are more than 2 years too.
Ideally this is what i want to adjust against as my tax rate is above 30.
So this is the main question. Is there any holding duration after which they are considered as long term gains (at slab rate) adjustable against Long term loss ?
Or are they all short term capital gains without special rate ? -
I also have some arbitrage funds now with some holdings of more than a year. If nothing else, i cant adjust against this in future. But again rate is 12.5%.

Finally, i read that next year there is some special case exception being made that will allow Long term loss adjustment against short term gains. Will this allow adjusting against holdings in debt mutual funds that get charged at slab rate ?
