Market cap vs. free float market cap

Hi,

According to data on NSE site, ITC share holding pattern is 100% public. ITC Total Market Cap is approx 30% more than Free Float Market Cap.

As per the definitions available, Free Float is all share available for trading, so, since in this case it is 100%, shouldn’t Total Market Cap be the same as Free Float?

Thanks.

The following categories are excluded from the free float factor computation:

 Government holding in the capacity of strategic investor
 Shares held by promoters through ADR/GDRs.
 Strategic stakes by corporate bodies
 Investments under FDI category
 Equity held by associate/group companies (cross-holdings)
 Employee Welfare Trusts
 Shares under lock-in category
