Market Overview
Nifty 50 opened with a 70-point gap-down at 24,609 but quickly recovered over 100 points to cross 24,700 in the first hour. The index then dipped back towards 24,620 before staging a steady recovery through the day. Post 2 PM, Nifty crossed the 24,800 mark and held above it, eventually closing at 24,821.10, up 0.57%.
Overall market sentiment remained cautious, weighed down by weak earnings or muted reactions to otherwise decent results. Looking ahead, investors remain focused on upcoming earnings announcements and global trade developments.
Broader Market Performance:
Broader markets had a bullish session today. Of the 3,050 stocks traded on the NSE, 1932 advanced, 1,025 declined, and 93 remained unchanged.
Sectoral Performance
Nifty Realty was the top-gaining sector, closing 1.60% higher, followed by Nifty Pharma and Nifty Energy, which rose 1.37% and 1.11% respectively. On the other hand, Nifty IT was the least performing sector, ending almost flat with a marginal gain of just 0.01%. Out of the 12 sectoral indices, all ended in the green, with none closing in the red.

Change in OI for the day
The following is the change in OI for Nifty contracts expiring on 31st July:
- The maximum Call Open Interest (OI) is observed at 25,000, followed closely by 25,200, suggesting strong resistance at 25,000 - 25,100 levels.
- The maximum Put Open Interest (OI) is observed at 24,800, followed closely by 24,700, suggesting strong support at 24,700 to 24,600 levels.
Note: OI is subject to multiple interpretations, but generally, an increase in Call OI indicates resistance in a falling market, and an increase in Put OI indicates support in a rising market.

NSE reported a 14% YoY rise in Q1 FY26 net profit to ā¹2,924 crore, while revenue fell 11% to ā¹4,032 crore. Sequentially, revenue rose 7% on higher transaction charges, and EBITDA grew 12% with margins at 78%. Dive deeper

Godfrey Phillips Indiaās board will meet on August 4 to consider a 2:1 bonus issue proposal, its first ever. If approved, shareholders will receive two bonus equity shares for every one share held, by capitalizing company reserves. Dive deeper
Asian Paints reported a 6% YoY decline in Q1 net profit to ā¹1,099.77 crore, with revenue down 0.4% to ā¹8,998.55 crore and EBITDA falling 4.1% to ā¹1,624.97 crore. Margins stood at 18.2%, while international business grew 8.4% in value, led by Asian markets, the UAE, and Egypt. Dive deeper
Varun Beverages reported a 5% YoY rise in Q1 FY26 PAT to ā¹1,325.49 crore, despite a 2.3% revenue dip to ā¹7,333.67 crore. EBITDA margin improved to 28.5%, and the board declared an interim dividend of ā¹0.50 per share. Dive deeper
L&T has secured an ultra-mega order worth over ā¹15,000 crore for its hydrocarbon offshore business in the Middle East. The contract, won by subsidiary L&T Energy Hydrocarbon Offshore Ltd., includes EPC and installation of offshore structures and facility upgrades. Dive deeper

The US goods trade deficit narrowed to $86 billion in June 2025, sharply below expectations, nearing a 20-month low. āWe have submitted our recommendations for the new CEO to the Reserve Bank of India within the stipulated June 30 deadline.ā
āThere is no change in the timelines for the CEO appointment. RBI is in the process of approvals.ā
āA committee of two senior executives is managing the bank in the absence of a full-time CEO and has been granted time till August 28.ā

Pankaj Chaudhary, Minister of State for Finance, on unclaimed deposits and the UDGAM portal
āAs of July 1, 2025, 8,59,683 users registered and accessed the Unclaimed Deposits- Gateway to Access Information portal, which facilitates the registered users to search unclaimed deposits/amounts across multiple banks at one place in a centralised manner.ā
āUnclaimed deposits with banks, including private lenders, stood at ā¹67,003 crore at the end of June 2025.ā
āThe government has no plans to launch Exchange Trade Funds for respective Virtual Digital Assets in order to integrate them into mainstream financial market.ā
