MCX Natural Gas option chain: OI mismatch between EOD and next-day open

Since the December contract, MCX option chain OI is showing a major mismatch between end-of-day OI and next-day opening OI.

Example:
300 CE (12 Jan)
• EOD OI on 12 Jan: 6,089
• Opening OI on 13 Jan (9:00 AM): ~3,600

This has been happening for over a month. Earlier, intraday OI exits were reflected before EOD and charts looked continuous. Now, the OI drop shows up directly at the next day’s open.

Is anyone else observing the same issue? Can others confirm? is it a glitch from mcx side ?

@nithin_kumrr @nithin can you notice the pattern today also
see the 280 ce naturalgas contract volume :

only around 407 , but see the
oi changes from 483 to 4647 in 1 mins ( how is this possible)

Is someone manipulating data from MCX , can you please flag the authorities for this scenario.

@shikamaru_uzumaki, apologies for the delayed response. This is not a glitch or manipulation. Intraday OI does not include all institutional trades because they are confirmed only after market hours.

Once these trades are settled, the final OI gets updated at EOD or the next day open. Explained here:

If this issue is known from last 10 years , then why is it still not resolved. Also is this only the case in indian exchanges or in Foreign exchanges also. Why is SEBI not doing anything on this when they openly say retailers lose money it is because you provide them with incomplete information . @nithin_kumrr @nithin

@nithin_kumrr @nithin any update on this issue , do you know if this is the case in other exchanges or only in india? Please help in clarifying

Hi @shikamaru_uzumaki , apologies for the delayed response.

I tried searching and learning more on this. Looks like other global exchanges and the US follow a similar process. They only publish it once per day after all clearing and settlement is complete. Give this a read:
