Muhurat Trading Session - Samvat 2076 [27th October, 2019]

A Muhurat trading session is conducted by exchanges every year on account of Diwali - Lakshmi Puja. Before the advent of electronic trading in the stock markets, trading would only take place in the designated trading halls of stock exchanges. Nobody apart from stockbrokers and their registered assistants would be allowed entry into the trading halls. Clients would have to stay outside the hall and get instructions/information relayed to the stockbroker with the help of the brokers’ assistants.

However, on Muhurat trading day stockbrokers could also invite some of their clients and friends into the trading hall to witness the open-outcry trading. One would be encouraged to buy a stock to mark activity and welcome luck for the next year. Check this post on Tradingqna from last year to read more about the significance of Muhurat trading.

This year the Muhurat session is being held on 27th October 2019 between 6:15 PM and 7:15 PM. MIS/BO/CO positions will be squared off 15 minutes before market closing. Check out the circulars for equity, currency, and MCX.

Also, if you’re trading through Zerodha, you don’t have to pay brokerage on any trades taken on this day. Check this post on Zconnect.

Note: Stocks purchased on 25th October 2019 (Friday) will not be available for selling on 27th October 2019 (Sunday) on account of a settlement holiday.

For an EOD technical analyst trader :
To trade on the 28th october monday;
25th october friday eod data should be considered OR 27th october sunday eod data should be considered?

Awaiting for the reply…

You need to consider 27th data. Anyhow monday is holiday, for tuesday.

Just to confirm, this is applicable only for stocks, right? F n O trades done on Friday (25th October) can still be closed on Sunday (27th October)?
Also, what about Gold ETF?

@siva

You will be able to square off FnO positions normally.

However, you will not be able to sell T1 gold ETF holdings on the 27th since the settlement for gold ETFs works like it does for stocks (T+2).
