So, I applied for two bonds last week and got the allocation -
739TN34A- SG
755PN33-SG
I thought of pledging them for my F&O. I know that G-sec can be pledged.
But I didn’t know that all G-secs can’t be pledged!
Even if they can be part of the approved list - it may take months!
I can’t pledge these two bonds now.
I feel so stupid for not doing detailed research before! Can anyone tell me if there is any chance of these bonds be in the approved list of pledging in future?
Striclty speaking these are SDLs (State-Development loans), not central-govt. GSECs…
Volumes (if any) should open-up in a few-days/weeks of a newly issued bonds.
Both of yours are SDLs, and brokers approve those far more selectively than central G-Secs. That’s why they’re not pledgeable. Whether they get added later is purely the broker’s risk call, so nobody can promise a timeline.
If you want out, two realistic routes:
Sell on the exchange yourself. Put a limit order up and re-post it daily, nudging the price till it fills. SDLs are thin so it takes patience.
If the quantity is sizeable, go to a bond desk. Tipsons, IndiaBonds, BondsIndia or AK Capital can find you a buyer off-market.
There’s also a general principle involved: Where possible, always stagger new investments. Even if you did your research it might not be enough. On hand practice is better than any research. Better to risk small when in practice.
