On what Machine / Internet Speed do you trade on?

Hi All,

As the headline of my query says.

Let me ask you all, a straight head on question. On what Machine and Internet Speed do you trade on?

This question came in my head when I decided to do Intraday trading in NSE Equity, Then I realized that i might not have the sufficient hardware requirement to fulfill the criteria to become a successful Online intraday trader.

I did some online research and found not every one is trading on a lean mean geeks dream machine.

Mind you all, that I have not started trading yet, still in learning researching process of selecting/finding brokerage houses for account opening etc. But I am almost there. :)

So lets start with my machine and Internet speed,

After my ivy bridge laptop died on me, now I have a rather weak 10.1" hp mini 210 netbook, Windows 7 SP1 works rather OK on this Intel Atom N450 / GMA3150 / 1GB RAM machine and so does chrome, word, excel 2007 and most of the things I use for my daily stuff,

I tether it to my android mobile which got a 3G connection, but in day time, let say during market hours my service provider throttle it down to almost 2G speeds. :[

Speedtest shows me Ping: 140ms, 40KB/s download, 30KB/s upload speed. Yes that's capital "B" in KBps :)

I know some of you might boast your Haswell loaded Rigs and Mbps connections. But let me remind you that Haswell is so 2014, Broadwell is the in-thing :}

This Christmas I'll gift myself a Broadwell laptop loaded with all paraphernalia. But till then I have to use this cringe worthy netbook.

I am asking this as one of the broker gave me a demo username/password to test his NEST/NOW trading platform. And despite installing/giving with admin privilege it is giving me some error "Request Failure" for which I am not able to get a solution yet, yeah I know so lame, but what to do?

Which eventually forcing me to reconsider my trading online decision.

Hence requesting everyone to share their hardware and internet of things, so that we all become aware on what can be a fair requirement for enjoyable day trading.

Thank you All

Regards

RK

50Mbps Fibrenet Broadband on Intel i5 processor with 4 GB RAM. Experience has been pretty good so far.

You don’t need a high end laptop or PC for online trading, a basic config PC will get the job done. Also, regarding internet speeds you don’t need very high speed, what you are doing (tethering android on 3G/2G speed is good enough)

Basic thing is, don’t invest too much on hardware or monthly internet bills, get it done with very low costs and try to save the money for trading or buying some trading related books, seminars to attend etc.

Open an account with Zerodha, it is really a very good broking house (discount broker), also their Nest Trader and Pi trading software are extremely good.

If you need any help in opening a/c with Zerodha, please contact me, I will help you out.
